These are authentic stories of
courage, decency and hope that remind us of the importance of listening to one
another and of how with courage lives can be lived to their fullest.
The students were asked to bring
in someone from their school or lives that seemed to them to be on the outside
of the socially acceptable circles.
After taking the time to listen, really listen to the subjects stories
we learned that we are not all that different and that we are all human. As a class we learned that if you think you
can judge someone’s interior life by how they look, you’re dead wrong.
We also learned that the act of
being recorded reminds people that their lives matter and they won’t be
overlooked. It validates others when we take the time to really listen the
outcome can be very profound and inspiring.
When we listen and share stories
we break down barriers that keep us apart and separate from one another. We
stop being afraid of one another and we are reminded that we are all
humans. Throughout this process we have
been reminded about what is important in life and why it’s so wonderful to be
human.
